If you’re dreaming of a place where you can connect closely with nature and its fascinating creatures, Monkey Park Tenerife is an experience you shouldn’t miss. This unique zoo in southern Tenerife offers far more than just watching animals from behind a fence — it’s a rare opportunity for close, supervised encounters with animals.
Monkey Park: Step into the Wild
Monkey Park Tenerife isn’t a traditional zoo; it’s a small wildlife park focused on intimate, educational visits. Unlike the island’s large theme parks, Monkey Park focuses on closeness and connection rather than spectacle. There are no massive attractions or stage shows here — instead, visitors are invited to enter spacious enclosures where lemurs, guinea pigs, and other friendly animals roam freely and happily take treats straight from your hand. It’s a heart-warming and memorable experience that both children and adults will treasure.
Beyond monkeys, the park is home to a wide variety of species, including reptiles, parrots, tortoises, and iguanas. It’s an excellent opportunity to see rare and endangered animals, such as ring-tailed lemurs and African spurred tortoises, up close. Visitors often comment on how well cared-for and content the animals appear — a sign of the park’s genuine commitment to their welfare.

Feeding the Animals: Important Rules and Tips
The chance to feed the animals is one of the main reasons why Monkey Park Tenerife is so popular — but it’s essential to do it safely and responsibly.
Food Provided by the Park:
At the entrance, you can buy special trays or small bags filled with fresh fruits and vegetables (usually around €3). This food is specifically prepared for the park’s animals and is guaranteed to be safe and healthy for them. Many visitors strongly recommend buying it, as it allows you to enjoy the full interactive experience and connect with the animals in the most authentic way.
Bringing Your Own Food (with Restrictions):
You are allowed to bring your own food, but it must comply with the park’s strict animal welfare guidelines. Staff members carefully check visitors’ bags at the entrance to ensure that no unsafe items are brought in.
Permitted foods include:
- Fresh fruits such as apples, pineapples, kiwis, and grapes
- Fresh vegetables like lettuce, cucumbers, cabbage, carrots, and fresh corn
- Unsalted, unroasted nuts
- Dates
Prohibited items:
Human snacks such as bread, biscuits, crisps, sweets, fried or salted foods, and even bananas (which can be harmful in large quantities) are strictly forbidden. Any non-approved food will be confiscated at the entrance and may be returned when you leave the park.
Important: The animals have carefully controlled diets, and inappropriate food can be dangerous for them. Please follow the feeding rules to help keep them healthy and safe. Officially, you’re expected to buy the park’s fruit/veg trays at the entrance; bringing your own food is discouraged and may be refused/confiscated.

- Be ready for close encounters: The animals are friendly and curious, often coming very close. Enjoy the experience, but always follow the staff’s safety instructions.
